The review of the month: “Festa di famiglia”

“Always feel free to make your choices. So, if you make a mistake, the fault will be yours and no one else’s. “

Why are we starting the review with this sentence? Simply because I believe that it can express the authentic and deep meaning that lies behind the events described in the book. Events that belong to its characters but actually concern all of us.

“Festa di famiglia”is the story of a great friendship between women, of a bond that goes beyond the biological one and that perhaps for that reason is more precious because it is the result of a choice.

Andreina, Carlotta, Flora and Maria Sole meet every Thursday in the dining room of a restaurant in Milan, a city that is the background of their lives.

During their weekly meeting they can show themselves without hesitation. There is someone who is a successful lawyer, someone who is a loving wife and mother, someone who lives a love story and who is the head of a company. Apparently everything seems perfect but the surprises are just around the corner, ready to be lived.

I mention only two: an unexpected pregnancy and a separation. They are linked to the awareness of the authentic and original reason of one’s existence and to the need for authentic change. To give a new and different meaning to life.

La recensione del mese: Festa di famiglia

“Sentiti sempre libera di fare le tue scelte. Così, se sbaglierai, la colpa sarà soltanto tua e di nessun altro”.

Perché partire da questa frase per introdurre la recensione del romanzo di Sveva Casati Modignani? Semplicemente perché credo che riesca ad esprimere al meglio il senso autentico e profondo che si cela dietro le vicende narrate. Vicende che appartengono alle protagoniste del libro ma in realtà riguardano tutti noi.

“Festa di famiglia” è la storia di una grande amicizia tra donne, di un legame che va oltre quello biologico e che forse per quello risulta più prezioso perché frutto di una scelta.

Andreina, Carlotta, Flora e Maria Sole si incontrano ogni giovedì nella saletta di un ristorante di Milano, città che funge da sottofondo delle loro vite.

Il loro incontro settimanale è il momento in cui mettere a nudo se stesse senza remore. Ognuna di loro sembra vivere la vita che ha scelto e che appare essere la più congeniale alla propria persona.

C’è chi è un avvocato di successo, chi una moglie e mamma amorevole, chi convive e chi è a capo di un’azienda. Apparentemente tutto sembra perfetto ma le sorprese sono dietro l’angolo, pronte ad essere vissute.

Ve ne accenno soltanto due: una gravidanza inattesa ed una separazione. Esse si legano ad una presa di coscienza della ragione autentica ed originaria della propria esistenza ed alla necessità di un cambiamento autentico. Per dare un nuovo e diverso senso alla vita.
